We are specialized in Electrode Assemblies for Electro-chlorinators. We cover a wide range of electrolyzer Cells, capacities, and electrochlorination plant spare parts. Our coating systems are based on a range of nano-structured multi-layers of metal oxides, which includes Ruthenium, Iridium, Platinum, Palladium, and Titanium.

All manufactured items go through a strict set of quality control protocols before it is shipped to our customers. Our manufacturing and quality team has extensive work experience which combined makes about 50 years in total working. In particular, may I mention that I the undersigned as Chief Technical Officer have worked with De Nora for a long period of time.

Refurbishment/Recoating of Old Electrolyzers

Refurbishment:
Refurbishment includes recoating, rebuilding the standoff and / or replacement, depending on the condition of the Anodes and Electrolyzers. Low current output, damaged standoffs, leaking seals or damaged mounting threads are the symptoms of refurbishment.

MAQ offers an extensive range of anode and cathode modules with various types of platinum group precious metal oxide (catalyst) coatings suited to various electrochemical processes - with long life times & low operating potentials for service in:


  • Hypochlorite cells for Monopolar or Bipolar arrangements.
  • Chlorine anodes for Membrane, Mercury (runner, rod & strip) and Diaphragm Cells.
  • Chlorate & Perchlorate anodes for Plate type, Diaphragm, Modular & Tank Cells.
  • Anodes for Cathodic protection.

Substrate:
The anode substrate is Titanium and the cathode substrates may be Titanium, Hastelloy, Nickel, normal Mild steel, or Ultra-Low Carbon steel.

Catalyst:
Our coating systems are based on a range of nano-structured multi-layers of metal oxides, which includes Ruthenium, Iridium, Platinum, Palladium, Titanium, and Tantalum. We offer increased performance over conventional materials by maximising catalytic phases and surface area interactions. By adding doping agents to the catalysts, we are able to make them more selective and further improve performance.

The developed High Density coating technology allows for very thin layers to be deposited increasing cost effectiveness. The Mixed Metal Oxide Coated substrate will undergo multiple thermal treatments at elevated temperatures. This process will achieve very good bonding properties between the mixed metal oxides coating and the substrates.

Raw Material Suppliers:

Metals: We procure , Titanium, Hastelloy, Nickel, etc. from TIMET (US), a world leader in such special metals.
Precious Chemicals: Ruthenium, Iridium, Palladium & Tantalum based salts are procured from Johnson Matthey (UK), the leading supplier for these chemicals.

MAQ’s Electro-catalytic Activated Dimensionally Stable Titanium Anode/Electrode TechnologyHypochlorite Generation:
The On-Site Sodium hypochlorite generation ( Electro chlorination ) systems operates by the principle of electrolyzing the brine solution (NaCl) or sea water. On-site production of sodium hypochlorite is a proven, cost-effective, reliable and safe solution and eliminates the use of the hazardous disinfection chemicals such as gaseous chlorine, commercial sodium hypochlorite etc. Continuous production of disinfection solution reduces the formation of disinfection by-products and improves the water quality.

MAQ’s Electro-catalytic Activated Dimensionally Stable Titanium Anode/Electrode Technology:
Dimensionally stable Titanium anode are the state of art as anode for a wide range of electrochemical applications. The excellent stability of titanium against surface and pitting corrosion make it dimensionally stable dramatic innovations in equipment design, operation conditions and energy consumptions of many electrolysis processes. The application of coating containing mixed metal oxides (MMO) such as Ruthenium and Iridium allows to reduce remarkably the overpotential for anodic chlorine and anodic oxygen evolution. Additionally the excellent stability of the MMO coated titanium anode consequently do not contaminate the electrolysis system, improving the products purity and maintenance costs.

Electrolyzers are designed by MAQ using the state-of-the-art technology, optimizing both performance and disinfectant concentration to ensure customer satisfaction. MAQ offers plate, tube, disc and mesh plate as four different mechanical configurations of electrolyzers. Capacities range from 10 kg/hr to 200 kg/hr.

The Anodic Process An anode chamber is filled with high-density refined salt water (NaCl) by removing impurities and the anode is soaked in Brine solution and connected to a direct electric current (+).

NaCl reacts and ionizes into Na+ and Cl- ions. The Cl- ion is oxidized by anode and becomes chlorine gas (Cl2).
Na+ ion is permeated with the ion exchange membrane with water and processed to a cathode chamber.
The generated chlorine gas and Brine solution of lower density is discharged from the anode chamber.

The Cathodic Process

A cathode chamber is filled with the slightly diluted caustic soda (NaOH) and pure water and then the cathode is soaked in caustic soda and connected to the direct electric current (-).
Water in the cathode chamber is ionized to H+ and OH- ions. H+ ion is deoxidized by cathode and becomes hydrogen gas (H2).
The OH- ion bonds to the Na+ ion from the anode to make caustic soda (NaOH).
The generated hydrogen gas and caustic soda are discharged from the cathode chamber.
Pure water is always supplied to maintain the density designated for caustic soda in the cathode chamber and the density of 32wt% is kept for optimization of the ion exchange membrane.

The Ion Exchange Membrane

Ion exchange membrane selectively permeates only the positive ion and water with ions in an anode chamber then to a cathode chamber. Therefore, an ion exchange membrane also takes on the role to prevent caustic soda and water in a cathode chamber from moving to an anode chamber, and chlorine gas in an anode chamber from moving to a cathode chamber.
